Social media outlets are key tools used to help maintain visitor retention by creating brand evangelists. From monitoring blogs and travel-related sites to being the facilitator of online conversations, the VCB is actively engaging in multiple social outlets. The social media plan is based on an understanding of where and when our target audiences create and consume media online. Then we find the best ways to engage these consumers in their own environments at the right time and with the right message.

The Lee County VCB joined the world of social media
with the launch of a Facebook Fan Page ( and Twitter account (@SocialLeeVCB). Both soft-launched at the beginning of 2010 and have steadily grown with increased enthusiasm from past, present and future visitors to destination as well as the tourism industry as a whole. The goal of the sites is to cultivate relationships and brand loyalty, as well as increase direct communication with consumers. The VCB will foster destination-and travel-related conversation between visitors and increase consumer interaction with the brand by engaging fans and followers in trivia and photo contests. Furthermore, the VCB plans to use the outlets to promote events and festivals in the destination along with packages and deals offered by tourism partners.
